You might be familiar with Google Analytics’
URL builder tool, but if you’re like me and you have to generate quite a few of these urls more than once in a while, you should really find a better solution than doing them one at a time!
Luckily, what Google’s tool does is simple, and it’s quite easy to hand code these tracking urls if you’re confident with URLs.
All you need is a query string with the appropriate value pairs for Google Analytics to pick up. You don’t have to understand that sentence to get value from the rest of this article ;).
For my own convenience, I created a formula in excel that lets me create a lot of codes quickly and easily. I have to specify the value I want to see in my Medium, Source and Campaign reports; this gets applied to the every row in the spreadsheet. Then I specify each landing page and ad content or keyword per row. Utilising all the cut and paste greatness in excel, in no time at all I have all the tracking codes I require.
It’s faster than building code in Google’s tool, I find it’s faster than hand coding them too! It’s brilliant, and has saved me and my colleagues a lot of time.

Just fill in the blue fields and the required urls will appear in the red fields, all thanks to the simple formula. For affiliate and display adverts use the code on tab 1 (defines a value for your ad content report) and for CPC use tab 2 (this one will populate your keywords report).
